Since September, 2021, the Foundation has been supporting an Afghan interpreter who risked his life and the lives of his family by assisting our Special Forces friends during their missions in Afghanistan. The family arrived in Quantico, VA after a harrowing escape and entered the Special Immigration Visa and Humanitarian Parole programs as legal immigrants to the US. The Foundation supported the family with clothing and educational supplies upon arrival and as they settled in the Seattle area, and in 2024 we were cheered to hear that they had received their Green Cards.

Shelton Red Hat Leadership Challenge
In 2024 the Second Dragoons Firepit Foundation funded a scholarship to support a participant in the Shelton Red Hat Leadership Challenge. The Red Hat Challenge is part of the Shelton Leadership Center at NC State University and seeks to provide a week of practical leadership training during the summer to current high school students. One of the members of the Firepit National Security Seminar serves as a mentor for the program and testified to the benefits, and we were able to identify a participant in need of financial assistance whose father had served in the U.S. Army and received a medical discharge.
Veterans Village
In 2021 the Second Dragoons Firepit Foundation supported Awake Ministries (in a collaborative effort with Veterans Rural Outreach and CrossRoads Missions) as the group built a community of small houses for veterans in need in Shelbyville, KY. The donation was made in honor of Long Ridge Farm near Shelbyville, KY, where the Foundation had gathered for several board meetings.
We continued to track the progress of the Veterans Village and due to the positive impact in the community we made an additional contribution in 2024.
